     Trees are pruned for health, form, and balance.  Pruning should be minimal as this is best for the tree. Heavy pruning is not good for the health of the tree as it produces weak sucker growth and potentially dangerous trunk/branch unions.
     Shrubs in beds need to be pruned to promote flowering and be kept in scale, not interfering with each other. Sometimes it may be better to remove some shrubs if they are overplanted.
     Pruning for security reasons is sometimes necessary if plants are too close to buildings or provide hiding places. All prunings are composted.
