Lawns Page

The important thing to remember with lawns in Vancouver is that we live in a rain forest environment.  Grass does not like this, it prefers dryer, prairie-like conditions.  Moss, however, does like the rainforest conditions and competes with grass.
We need to encourage the grass and discourage the moss. This is done through improving drainage, fertilizing the grass, and applying lime (to correct acidity in the soil caused by heavy rainfall).  Moss likes acidity, grass does not.
In some instances we may need to apply
moss killer and rake out the dead moss. In this case we usually need to top dress the lawn and over seed to give the grass a better chance.  This can be done in spring or early fall.
There may be times when we should give up on the grass and try something else. We may not be able to improve drainage. there may be too much shade. Too much foot traffic may make grass impractical.
We provide weekly mowing, string trimming, blade edging and a complete fertilizer program with weed control.
